Explaining Richard Cohen

Posted by clubsodaandsalt on February 19, 2006

I’m a bit late on this, but this is the dumbest column I have read in a long time, and certainly represents a new low for the Post. The most upsetting part is that Richard Cohen, who is hired to write insightful commentary on current events, admits that he cannot understand percentages. Is he serious? How can you speak intelligently about government policy if you don’t understand percentages!? This is exactly why we end up with such horrendous ‘he-said/she-said’ reporting about economic/budgetary matters. Remember how confused the reporters all were when trying to explain the debate about Bush’s tax cuts? Makes a lot more sense now that we know that the papers hire people without basic math skills.

Sigh.
