Why bother?

I’m not sure why I’d bother mentioning this, but Panday says some nonsensical stuff in today’s Express:

“This government is ripe for the taking. Over 1,000 people have been killed, murdered since the PNM took over. That is as much as the American soldiers who have been killed in Iraq. We have no war here but the number of deaths is almost equal to the number of soldiers killed in Iraq,” he added.

Well, no. That’s just a lie. As was well publicized a few months ago, well over 2,000 American soldiers have died in Iraq. Moreover, to judge the relative safety of the two places, you’d need to include tens of thousands of dead Iraqis  in your analysis.

I’m not saying that the crime situation in Trinidad isn’t apalling; it is. But it doesn’t do the cause of those who want change any good to engage in silly (and, frankly, completely irrelevant) hyperbole.
