Thank Jeebus that Laurie and Mary and others are OK. Laurie’s right about the real source of sadness — it’s not just the carnage, but the fact that a city that you love has been hurt. I felt the same way on Sept. 11th, and I wasn’t even in the city at the time (I’d just gone back to Jersey for senior year after living there for the summer).
One thing to take away from this is that the terrorists seem to be sticking to the conventional weapons. They’re using a lot of them, and they’re scaring the crap out of us, but at least we’re not getting nuked or ebola-d or whathaveyou. Our governments have spent the last 4 years talking about the possibility of WMD attacks, but perhaps we just need to spend time preventing the simple, smaller incidents.
Anyway, this has not been a pretty day. I’d say something like “today we are all British”, but that’s not how I express sympathy and solidarity. All the same, London is a city that I love, and it’s a city that’s home to people I love, and I hope you’re all doing better soon.
