Below The Fold

Posted by clubsodaandsalt on January 29, 2005

I’m not entirely certain why a story about some drunk and disorderly teenaged girls and their altercation with some cops is particularly worthy of front page news. I suspect it’s because the Express has low journalistic standards, and would rather spend its time needlessly panicking parents rather than dealing with serious issues. Hey, no different from American media, right?

But what I do find disturbing is this passage:

A female photographer of a weekly newspaper who had stopped to take pictures was also arrested and is to be charged.

Um, WHAT?! Why on earth was a photographer arrested? What could they possibly be charging her with? And why, WHY isn’t more of the article devoted to this very worrying bit of the story?

This sort of thing doesn’t help my cause when I complain about the Freedom House ratings.
