Shut Up Anthony Garcia

Grrr. So according to Anthony Garcia, a former trade unionist, the government’s move to shut down TTT/ICN/NBN or whatever they’re calling the natonal TV station these days is an act of terrorism. I’ve discussed before how annoying this brand of hyperbole is, and this is no exception; unless the government’s plan involves destroying the TTT building with car bombs, Garcia really needs to shut up.
Having said that, it is a bit disturbing that CCN TV 6 will now have a monopoly on local programming. Given that the Trinidadian private sector can only support one privately owned channel (as the demise of AVN demonstrated), perhaps there is justification for a government subsidized channel (with very strict independence, of course) in order to preserve a certain amount of healthy competition in the media sphere. Of course, I watch little or no local TV when I’m at home, so what do I know?
