*tries to shake the feeling of budding disgust.

I had an incident with Republic recently, (having done the print out, submitted the form (in person), and received my online access) I simply tried to send money from my bank acct to a third party republic bank account. I was told online that I would need to request a republic id to make such transactions...and collect the id at my nearest bank! I gritted my teeth, swore at the whole irony of "online banking" and emailed a representative, stating my case of being abroad and my haste in needing to complete said transaction.

In the end, I sent a friend (whom I identified in the email would be collecting it and was also the person to receive the money) who was told by an employee that I would need to mail..physically...a letter stating that he was authorised to pick up the id. So vexingly backward.

I think "fact finding mission" is generous, but thanks. I mostly just chatted with my cousins about it. To be clear, though, I still don't agree with the policy.

That said, I have to admire that when in Barbados, you get the sense that the majority of people actually give a damn. In Trinidad I always feel like the few who care have mostly given up.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Barbados & saw for yourself what the whole immigration mess was about in person. Most would have just criticized Barbados to no end instead of trying to do a fact finding mission.

I know many fellow caribbean folk may see us Bajans as being *pompous* as a better word, but in all honesty if something is seen as threatening the rock we will always respond. One can never be laxed,as you just mentioned, when it comes to dealing with problems that could affect a country going forward.

Hopefully, NIMBYism won't be a problem if the California HSR project gets the rest of the state government behind them and uses eminent domain wisely. While I'm all for the CA HSR, it's sad for me as a NJ/NY resident to see this project attain speeds of 200mph (and probably average 150mph including stops) when the Northeast Corridor's "high-speed" Acela clunks along at an average 65, 70mph going through Boston-NY-DC. If only we had ROW, dedicated tracks, and politicians with enough gumption to push for real HSR here. That would be a project worth spending billions on.

My Mistake,it is believed that ~10% of the population of Barbados is undocumented with the former Immigration Minister,Maxine McClean, hinting that there were about 30,000 illegal immigrants in Barbados based on statistics, with Vincentian & Guyanese nationals being the majority.I still think the Government has absolutely no clue on the numbers considering the former BLP Government was in power for ~10 years & who knows what could have happened during that entire time. What I do know though is that the Immigration Department & RBPF have started to do immigration raids mainly at night.

The truth is though the immigration mess in Barbados has been a boiling issue for the past 3-5 years, but it was mainly quiet.

Thank you for the link on the schengen exemption, since I thought only the Mauritians were getting the exemption during the June 1st date.

15% is extremely high. Not sure that passes the smell test. How good do you think the records on this matter are?

Anyway, more importantly, here is where I heard about the June thing, and yes, I'm talking about the exemption for Bajans:

Of course, the Bajan foreign ministry and its embassies are no help in confirming anything. But hopefully this is correct!
